Overnight trip to Lake Dewar and Sovereign Hill, May 1st and 2nd, 2015

This morning we gave our individual presentations to the year 5 classes. This afternoon we are going to Lake Dewar and then Sovereign Hill for an overnight. We went to a YMCA camp at a place called Lake Dewar that the year threes go to. The first thing we did was split into groups and figure out what activities we were going to do. The boys decided to do the Flying Fox which was a zip line that went over a little valley thing. You could do a flip, spin or, go backwards or anything. It was kind of fun and you had to run back with all of your equipment on. After that, we went to the the meeting place and decided to do an activity called the Adventure Tunneling. If you were wondering what Adventure Tunneling is, it is an obstacle coarse inside shipping crates that you have to get through with buckets of water and make it to the end and escape. The girls were not finished with this activity yet when we arrived so we made lots of noise for them. We set a record time when our group did it with a time of 20 minutes! After that we got on the bus and went to Sovereign Hill.

When we got to Sovereign Hill we un-packed our stuff and  went into our rooms.  I was with Alexander, Tejas, Saul, Armin, Seb, and I.  After that we went outside to have pizza.  We all where so hungry so we all ate so much.  Next, we went to the sound and light show that showed the history of Sovereign Hill.  It had voices and things like that and sound effects.  There was also fire and explosions.  We went back to our rooms and went to bed.  The kids in the room next to us kept knocking on the wall so we could not go to sleep.  We finally did, and we all happened to wake up at the same time.  Someone asked what time it was and Armin said it was 4:30 in the morning.  We all groaned and went back to sleep.  When we woke up at 7:00, Zander got off his bed and attacked us in the dark so we started playing Monster in the Dark.
We got out of bed and started to pack up, but we were cut off and went to breakfast.  It was a nice breakfast, we had cereal, juice, and toast.  I was dared to eat a slab of Vegemite, so I did.  I put it on the end of my knife with a slab of butter and ate it.  I also was dared to have six slabs of butter and jam on toast.  After breakfast, we went back to our room to finish packing.  Then, we went out for the day to explore.  We went into a mine, paned for gold, and did a lot more stuff.

Presentations to 6th year classes and 'Footy Clinic', April 28th, 2015

Presentations to 3rd and 4th year classes at school, April 27th, 2015

Today I gave my first presentations.  First, we presented to the 3rd graders.  I presented after Sadie who went first so I presented second.  I was a little nervous when I got up there and I stumbled a bit but I did very well.  After that I went to get a snack.
After snack, we presented to the 4th graders.  I did a lot better and was not nervous and did not stumble.  Next , I went into our classroom and looked at my lines for the play.  Then, I went to lunch.  Seb was doing cross-country and I sat and talked with Luke.  They blocked off the whole field so when they were done I went and played 'Marks Up' which is a game played with a footy and a person kicks it and others try to catch it.
After lunch, we went to the gym to rehearse our play.  We only got half way through it when we had to go.  Two out of the six individual presentations each of us will do are are done!  Tomorrow we are going to present to the 6th graders.

Day trip to Healesville Animal Sanctuary, April 21st, 2015

Today we went to the Healesville Zoo!  While Mr. Foster went to get the tickets, we watched a koala eating in a tree. Next we saw an emu that was walking in its enclosure. Then we went into a bird cage and fed the birds with seeds and nectar (see picture below).  After that we patted some dingoes and they were so soft.  Don't dingoes eat babies? Then we went to a show with a platypus, eel, and some lobsters.  The guy put a towel into the water and the platypus started to attack it.
I have limited time right now so I will tell you the rest later....

First day at Mount View PS, April 20th, 2015

On the first day of school we had an Aussie breakfast at 7:30 in the staff room. We had toast with Vegimite and butter, cereal, orange juice and pancakes.  All the host families came. After that, we went on a school tour which made us feel like we were rock stars because there were posters everywhere saying nice things about us. When we went past classes, kids were waving at us, which made us feel important to them.  After the tour, we came back to our ISSE room to re-group.

The school is very nice and is really spread out with with classroom doors on the outside. We went to classes with our hosts students.  The day ended with a special assembly to welcome us. We walked in together and they played the Australian national anthem, our national anthem and an Aboriginal song. Guests included the US Vice Consulate and the Consulate office manager who had attended CU Boulder and lived in Fort Collins. We went up to the front and we were introduced to the whole school. They gave us all a welcome present.

After school, everyone went home real excited about tomorrow's trip to Healesville Animal Sanctuary.
